Self-analysis of Eminem - Love The Way You Lie

What do I like about this video?
In this video I really enjoyed the obvious narrative and the fact that it was controversial yet relatable. I also liked the fact that there were obvious 'characters' within the video and that the mise-en-scene fit really well with the theme/ideology of the song.
What do I dislike about this video?
i did not like the fact that it was all very dark, it was a bit too serious.

Self-analysis of Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop

What do I like about this video?
In this video I liked the wide variation of settings, this constantly kept me interested as it changed quite a lot and there was always something different happening in a different place. I also liked the fact that everything was quite random and there was lots of different mise-en-scene, especially props. There was also a a lot of different cinematography which again kept me interested as there was always something new to look at.
What do I dislike about this video?
At times I thought the video was too random, it would've been better had there been a bit more of an obvious narrative or things within the video that related to the lyrics.

"Girls"

(18 SECOND INTRO)
Bite your face to spite your nose (5 seconds)
17 and a half years old
(4 seconds)
Worrying about my brother finding out
(6 seconds)
Where's the fun in doing what you're told?
(5 seconds)

I said, "No!"
(2 seconds)
"Oh give it a rest, I could persuade you"
(5 seconds)
"I'm not your typical, stoned 18 year old
(4 seconds)
Give me a night I'll make you"
(3 seconds)
"I know you're looking for salvation in the secular age, but girl I'm not your saviour."
(8 seconds)
Wrestle to the ground
(4 seconds)
God help me now because
(3 seconds)

They're just girls breaking hearts
(4 seconds)
Eyes bright, uptight, just girls (6 seconds)
But she can't be what you need if she's 17 (7 seconds)
They're just girls
(2 seconds)
They're just girls (2 seconds)

A pair of frozen hands to hold,
(5 seconds)
Oh she's so southern so she feels the cold,
(6 seconds)
One moment I was tearing off your blouse,
(5 seconds)
Now you're living in my house.
(4 seconds)
What happened to just messing around?
(4 seconds)

I said, "Yo, I think you better go; I can't take you."
(8 seconds)
"You just sit and get stoned with 30 year olds and you think you've made it."
(8 seconds)
"Well, shouldn't you be fucking with somebody your age instead of making changes?" (8 seconds)
Wrestle to the ground (4 seconds)
God help me now because (3 seconds)

They're just girls breaking hearts (4 seconds)
Eyes bright, uptight, just girls (6 seconds)
But she can't be what you need if she's 17 (7 seconds)
They're just girls

Evaluation questions

How successful was your product?
Overall I feel our product was very successful. Although we found it more difficult then we originally thought it would be, we ended up creating a video that was as near to the original that we could have done
.What did you learn from carrying out this process?
The main thing I learnt from this process was about organisation. I realised that in the future I need to be a lot more organised and plan things out. I need to properly plan everything out so that everyone knows where they need to be at specific times. The main problems caused when carrying out this process where caused by a lack of organisation and planning so this is something I definitely need to be more rigid with in future.
What would you do differently?
If I could repeat this task, one thing I would definitely do is make sure that everyone was definite about the plans, this would speed up the recording process and would of made the process a lot easier. I would also choose a more complex video to replicate. I feel as though if we had picked a harder video it would've given us more opportunity to practise with the editing suite and learn more from it, in the video we chose there wasn't much editing. so we couldn't use the editing suites much.
What skills do you feel you now have from carrying out this project?
The main skill I learnt from this project was how to set up hollywood lighting, lighting that would make my actress look more 3D rather than like a flat image. I also feel like although I knew how to use cameras at the start of the project, I have learnt more about how to use the cameras in relation to moving image rather than still images.

Evaluation

I think that our video remake went well, but we did encounter some problems along the way. The main issue we had involved the lighting, we had to make sure that the lighting was placed in different places around her so that the image didn't look flat, instead it looked more rounded and 3D. We asked a teacher to show us how to position the lights and I feel that I have learnt a lot from that because now I know that you have to place lights at each side and slightly behind the actress and one behind below her. We also encountered problems with the lighting when filming as we needed to dim the lights at the right time, this was a difficulty because we had to make sure we had the video on enough devices so that me and the actress could see it at the same time to make sure that it was true to the original. We had an issue with the timing of filming because there was confusion as to which day the actress was supposed to bring her costume and we all had to pick a time when we were all free, this slowed down the process of filming, this taught me that in future it would be much better to have a definite plan in plenty of advance. We made sure that we had time to do a practise run of our video before we did the final filming so that we knew what we needed to change to make our final filming the best it could possibly be.
